The PS Plus Collection version of Resident Evil 7 can’t be upgraded for free

PS5 owners will have to buy the game to get the current-gen version

The PS Plus Collection version of Resident Evil 7 can’t be upgraded for free

The recently released current-gen upgrade for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard doesn’t apply to the PS Plus Collection version, it’s been revealed.

The PS Plus Collection is a bundle of 19 PlayStation 4 games that PS5 owners can claim as part of their PS Plus subscription, including the PS4 version of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

However, IGN reports that players are unable to upgrade to the newly-released PS5 version if they’re using the PS Plus Collection version.

Instead, they have to purchase the PS5 version of the game from the PlayStation Store, which is currently $19.99 / £15.99.

The current-gen upgrades for Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard were all released on Monday.

Each update includes new current-gen features including 4K support, improved framerates and ray tracing. They also include 3D audio, for what Capcom calls “an even more immersive experience”.

PC owners, who also received the upgrades, have been expressing disappointment at the way they can no longer access the pre-update version of the game.

The new update raises the minimum system requirements on PC, meaning players who were already playing on or close to the minimum requirements are now finding their PC can’t handle the games.

The game now requires Windows 10 and DirectX12, whereas before it could run on Windows 7/8 and DirectX11.

The minimum graphics card requirements have also been increased, from Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 / AMD Radeon R7 260x to Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 / AMD Radeon Rx 460.

Both Resident Evil 7 and the Resident Evil 2 remake were met with extremely positive reviews when they originally released, with both games being cited as a return to form for the franchise.

However, Resident Evil 3‘s remake wasn’t as popular with critics, due in some part to the remake’s changes to the original game.

Capcom recently confirmed that a Resident Evil 4 remake is in development and is scheduled to release on March 24, 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
